Assessment for Local Council
Our client required an assessment of several challenges before electric charge points could be considered for roll out on a widespread basis. The assessment was based around these key questions:
- Where are footways wide enough to support charging infrastructure without negatively impacting safety and access?
- How can residential on-street parking affect charge point’s utilisation?
- Which residential properties have private/off-street parking?
- How can we integrate existing power sources (such as lighting)?
The 10B World team proposed an innovative solution based on analysis of Big Datain a form of Very High Resolution (VHR) satellite imagery, obtained through machine learning techniques.
This included automatic classification of footways and measurements of their widths (in 27,000 locations), machine-led identification of obstructed footway locations, automated cataloguing of cars in on-street locations, analysis of residential properties with available private/off street parking (driveways) and integration of Bournemouth’s street light infrastructure data.
The intelligence delivered to our client by the 10B World team has facilitated a strategic approach to borough-wide implementation which can be communicated to key stakeholders.
The data also provided the ideal evidence for onward application for Government funding to support physical installation via the On-street Residential Charge Scheme (ORCS) or similar. Our client is also utilising the data for several other applications, including:
- Leveraging the footway width data to support analysis and identification of areas where additional cycle and bus lanes could be introduced.
- Using the driveway data to assess the potential for peer-to-peer charging schemes.
- Analysing the on-street vehicle data to predict air quality levels and future vehicle-to-grid potential.
10B World was born of a deep desire to evolve to a society in which all businesses are sustainable and self-sufficient.
Our mission is to accelerate the transition to a sustainable and self-sufficient society by offering businesses the knowledge, data and technology to help them operate 100% sustainably.
We avidly look and promote ways to create operational efficiencies and deliver cost savings, deliver profitability while achieving the Global Sustainable Goals.
